5 March 2009: Climate change adaptation to go from bad to worse in economic recession
Regardless of any cuts in carbon emissions, many countries will feel the effects of climate change and must adapt their infrastructure, yet no countries are addressing the area seriously. As the recession deepens, international funding for adaptation will dry up and developing countries will not be able to fund projects.

While president-elect Obama has ambitious climate change policies, it is unlikely that he will be able to pass many of them into law during 2009. The Senate will prioritise economic recovery and is unlikely to support policies that risk increasing energy prices.
13 Decemeber 2009: Poznan - big emerging nations split on climate, increasing the chance of a global agreement next year
Five of the largest emerging economies, which have been largely united in their approach to climate change, have gone separate ways during the UN climate change conference in Poznań. This could be a good sign for international negotiations over the next year.
